Griffin’s Journal, Day Two of the Deep Blue Release Case.
Today’s revelations have put me further into this labyrinthine case than I could have ever anticipated. And it’s getting stranger by the minute.
It was late morning when my assistant rushed into my office, holding the same D-VHS tape from yesterday. I was reviewing some other unrelated case files when he burst in.
“Griffin, you’re not going to believe this. You absolutely need to see it.”
Confused, I looked up. “Isn’t that the same tape we got yesterday? I already watched it. As strange as it was, I’m not sure what else there is to see.”
He grinned, his excitement barely contained. “That’s the thing. We missed something. Evidence found that there’s more footage on the tape, digitally encoded. The static after the end of the first video? Thats a second video, sounds like Deep Blue moved to encoding at some point. Luckily the lab boys spotted it and they were able to extract it before converting it back to a normal tape. The visuals suggest it’s part two of the same test, with ‘Sock’ appearing again. Except this time, well… it adds another layer of weird to our ‘liquid cat’ narrative.”
My brain started spinning with theories and questions. This whole case was bordering on the absurd, but I couldn’t deny my growing intrigue.
“Let me guess,” I began cautiously, “the footage you’re talking about shows something none of us would believe unless we saw it, right? More of this ‘Sock’ character?”
His eyes widened, as if I’d read his mind. “Exactly. And there’s no project name or any other information to go with it. It’s just footage, but it’s damning. Do you want to see it?”
The strangeness of the case and the implications of what this could all mean started to make me uneasy, but curiosity prevailed.
“Alright,” I sighed, pushing aside the files I was previously engrossed in. “Set it up. Let’s see what this is all about.”
He connected the D-VHS player to my office TV, taking a moment to fiddle with the cables. Then he inserted the tape, and his eyes met mine for a brief second before he pressed ‘play’.
The screen flickered to life, showing just static for a moment before the footage began.
This was a project that took a lot of doing and redoing and even though there is still some iffy bits with the animation (specifically the speed/timing in the 2nd loop) from it being my first ‘loop, transition, loop’ animation, I figure Its at the point where I should probably just put it out before I redo the whole thing for the 4th time. I have been working on this for about 5 months, taking a during it break to do the kangaroo. Throughout this time the hollywood writers strike begun and I lost my job, so if you enjoy this work PLEASE think about dropping me a dollar or two.
I have a Gumroad where I sell VRChat assets and a Patreon where I plan on posting stills. Other than that, just sharing and enjoying is amazingly helpful for me.
